FINTECH IN THE SAVANNAH: Afro-Asia FinTech festival 2019 that took place in Nairobi Kenya

After two days of inspiring visionary speakers, motivating keynote addresses and innovative FinTech solutions, the Afro-Asia FinTech Festival came to a close on July 16th at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies in Nairobi, Kenya.

Co-hosted by the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) and the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the festival provided a platform for the exchange of creative ideas between Africa and Asia, empowering FinTech-centric connections & collaborations to explore innovation in sustainable financial services between the two continents. The outcome of the event was to forge successful partnerships and nurture thriving FinTech ecosystems to pave the way forward for a better, more inclusive future.

The President of Kenya Uhuru Kenyatta gave an inaugural speech on the first day of the Afro-Asia FinTech Festival and expressed his delight at welcoming the attendees, emphasizing the importance of the growing partnership between the two countries.

The crowds also witnessed on the first day of the festival the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Central Bank of Kenya and the Monetary Authority of Singapore, setting in stone an agreement to drive both countries forward in the FinTech sector through collaboration and innovative joint efforts.

The event itself featured various FinTech areas being addressed with a general focus on green sustainable solutions, where the two days witnessed presentations on topics such as Sustainable Finance – Inclusive & Green, Technology for Tomorrow, which explored how Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and Cloud technologies have impacted the financial services sector, Social Impact which tackled the impact on the well-being of society equitable distribution of wealth through climate change, financial literacy and democratizing SME growth and finally Spirit of Innovation, which discussed how innovation enables leapfrogging of emerging markets in Africa and Asia through mobile financial services, InsurTech and Digital Pension.

The exhibition area saw a multitude of FinTech solution providers that were eager to showcase their products & services to attendees. The extensive list of exhibitors included EBORA Ltd., Gets Global Pte Ltd.
